Denmark Cottage Christmas 2017

Christmas / The Cottage

This Christmas I went with a more simplistic/elegant design. It was perfect! Thankfully it’s not much to take down and put away and I’m not tired of looking at it yet, so I highly recommend the more simple approach.

I like using crates or baskets instead of the traditional tree stand for our Christmas trees. Just be sure to use a bucket with dirt if you have a real tree, this will protect your containers.

I always collect fresh greens from outside to tuck around the house. I usually wait a week or two before Christmas to cut them since they will dry out pretty quickly. You can also soak them in water to help them last longer.

I also love Adding live greenery or other outside elements to my gifts. Simple and beautiful.

Here’s a little video of our home for Christmas.

There was a time when the front porch was where the day ended. Neighbors stopped by, children played until the fireflies came out, and conversations lasted long after the sun went down. Todd and I have found that one of the best ways to experience a town is by bringing our bikes along. Which porch would you want to sit and enjoy a nice tall glass of freshly brewed sweet iced tea? Pimento cheese is a staple here in the south and although I prefer homemade, you can usually find a good one in the local farm stores. Watching her pick tomatoes from the garden, feed the chickens, and clap with excitement every time she finds an egg reminds me that joy doesn’t have to come from expensive toys or elaborate plans. Added a few more flags around the house for America’s 250th birthday this weekend 🇺🇸 Be more like Granny 👵 Everyone said she was too little (20 months) for Disney, and honestly, I thought so too. This porch tends to get neglected more than I’d like, so before I could even decorate for America’s 250th Birthday, it needed a good cleaning.
