Back Porch Oasis

Porch / The Cottage

One of our favorite places to hang out is our back porch. Todd and a good friend of ours built an incredible pergola as a gift for me.

We planted Confederate Jasmine at the base of each post and now we are reaping the beautiful benefits of it. The blooms are not only beautiful but also so fragrant.

We used THIS mild to do the concrete pathway.

I have become quite the plant lady these past couple years.  It was always a big joke that plants came here to die…. Then one day I decided I was determined to keep them alive by setting a timer in my phone reminding me to water them…And would you look at me now!

I also purchased a couple of THESE swings to add a whimsical touch, but also for something fun for the kids.

We purchased Adirondack chairs from Home Depot on clearance and used them to create a little sitting area where Todd and I sit and relax with some wine. We also used a tree stump as a table in between to set our drinks on.

I typically Purchase plants that are shade tolerant. I usually end up in the indoor plant area of Home Depot since these plants do better on the porch.

Here are a few good options if you have a partly shaded area:

Boston Ferns … these are some of my favorite plants to add fullness to the porch. I typically water them twice a week unless it rains.

Cateracterum Palm

Majesty Palm

Palms are some of my favorite plants to use. I love how tropical they make the porch feel. They are also very low maintenance and I water them once or twice a week typically.

Aglaonema Creta

If you want to add a little color and want a low maintenance plant, then this one is a great choice.

Kimberly Fern
This is another favorite fern of mine…we have always had great luck with these. I have two on my front porch that are a few years old.

I typically add color by buying plants that are seasonal. So for Fall I Add Mums and Crotons and for Spring and Summer I’ll add White New Guinea Impatients and also White or Red Geraniums

Lastly, we added THESE lights to the porch and at night it is absolutely beautiful!

I used a remote control plug I had from Christmas to plug them into, so all I have to do is push a button to turn them on.

Well Hopefully this has inspired you to create your own back porch oasis… ours is pretty low maintenance now that I’ve learned how NOT to kill the plants.

This rice bowl is a new favorite around here and would also make a great meal prep idea for busy weeks. May was busy but filled with so many good memories. 🌸 Part 2 of organizing my bake room This tortellini salad was one of our favorite menu items to get from a local Italian restaurant that closed years ago. Just a little reintroduction for those who may be new here. 🤎 We wanted a baby swing to put on our back porch for our granddaughter, however the ones I kept finding online or at thrift stores were too bright and colorful for our cozy porch. Sometimes the best thing you can do is log off and simply live 🥰 Getting my baking room a little more organized, and honestly… I truly believe that the more organized your spaces are, the more organized your thoughts become too. I love being their Mama❤️❤️
